We were carefree, we were glad and ran barefoot on the land, Weran naked in the sun, good food came from the land.
Parents worked very hard, making butter, bread and jam.
Current buns, apple tart, gooseberries and the rhubarb, made thejuices flow.
We were sure that we were poor as we wore hand me downs.
It's older now I be, to find that we had riches to our hands,Even better in our heads and in our hearts. Sometimes now when I dothink, wartime in a city must've been some hell.
No great complexes from those hand me downs, I just love tobrowse around the charity shops, sport the best dress in town.
I am grateful for what was the fashion then, when we were kids.Caring for each other was 'The In Thing Then'.
