THE LIGHTY NIGHTS Didn't you love the 'lighty nights' When you were a kid, Playing for hours In our tenement squares Quite an active sports arena Unconventional I suppose As there wasn't a blade of grass in sight The goal-posts and wickets, well They were pretend ones Painted on a dividing brickwall The lads played with a patched up Leather 'casie' Tthe cricket bat, well That consisted of two planks of wood tied together Iimprovisation at its best! There was rarely a victor in either match As inevitably poor light stopped play Well it was half past ten in the night Time for the clocks to 'fall back' It's official, the 'lighty nights are over'.
